Introduction

This exhibition summarizes the different funerary rituals in different past populations and the scientific advances in the fascinating field of funerary archaeology and, at the same time, it will be an homage to the researchers that have passed away.

Exhibitions hall of the Nature and Man Museum.

Contents

The exhibition is divided in four different thematic units:

  1. Social, cultural and religious implications of death.
  2. Death from a biological perspective, including the natural processes preservating the corpse (natural mummification, preservation by natural salts, adipocira formation, corification, freezing, bog bodies, iron coffins preservation).
  3. Funerary rituals through time (inhumation, inhumation with quicklime, cremation, cannibalism, abandonment, anthropogenic mummification).
  4. The World Congresses on Mummy Studies.

Exhibition period

In order to guarantee the maximum number of visitors the sample will be open to the public during more than 6 months from December 2017 to June 2018.

Visit time limited to one hour.

In order to ensure the preservation conditions of the exhibition contents, it has been established a strict limit of 60 visitors by time-slot.
